Talking on the phone isn’t exactly my forte. I worked in call centers and sales in the start of my career and spent 8 hours each day talking on the phone. Due to this, I tend to shy away from phone jobs.

When thinking about work-from-home jobs it seems that the most available ones require you to talk on the phone! If you want freedom in your schedule and work from home, can you really avoid talking on the phone?

Yes! And you don’t have to be tech savvy. You can have a flexible work-from-home job. Depending on how committed you are, these opportunities can pay you a 5 figure income and can replace your full-time income.

Why find a non-phone work-from-home job? Maybe you’re burnt out from talking on the phone like I am. For some, talking on the phone at home could be difficult if you’re a mom or dad or have a shared space. Non-phone remote jobs are also great for introverts.

Proofreading is the perfect job for those that love to read! It’s great for introverts and anyone who don’t want to be bound by a phone.

It doesn’t require any experience! Web content is KING, so this is a high demand job and one that you could start today. It doesn’t require you to make or receive phone calls and it can be home based.

As a proofreader, you’ll look over your clients content thoroughly. You’re not an editor but more of someone giving content a second look. You don’t even need a laptop, you can do it all from your iPad.

3. Become a Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistant, commonly referred to as VA’s are generally hired out to complete online administrative tasks for companies.

These tasks can include anything from emails, social media management, customer service, data entry, etc. VA positions can be full-time, part time and both long and short term. They’re ideal for introverts and those looking to work from home.

It’s a HOT job right can now and can pay on average of $35-50 dollars an hour. Here some tips on becoming a virtual assistant:

  2. Search sites for virtual assistant opportunities on sites like Freelancer and Upwork. Be sure to make sure you profile is completely filled out in detail. Listing all your skill sets that are relevant to virtual assistant work.

4. Sell FBA on Amazon

Back in 2014, I started an Amazon business after reading an interview from The Selling Family. Selling on Amazon was brief since I was in the process of moving between states at the time. However, within a month and a half, I was still about to make a $7000 in profit!

Amazon FBA program is a great for those that want to design their own career, have flexibility and not have to deal with customers directly. Only phone calls you’ll find yourself making are ones to Amazon.

5. Become a Transcriptionist and Work From Home

Transcription work is a GREAT opportunity to work from home. As a transcriptionist, you have the job of turning audio and video into text.

Someone in this role listens to the spoken word of audio and video and turns it into a document that can be used for different purposes. Many podcasts look for transcriptionists to type the audio from episodes to be used as blog posts. This roles are also used for things such as legal and training documents.

If you’re interested in being a transcriptionist, this is a skill that is learned through training. It’s not a great fit for everyone and passing a test is required. It is not a easy get rich job. Average transcription work can pay from $15 to $20 an hour.

  • Accutran Global: Work available for US and Canadian citizens. They pay between $.005 and $.0066 per word transcribe. Offers opportunities for beginners.
  • Apprenscribe: Training is ideal to be successful on the platform because projects given are directly related to your quality of work.
  • Babbletype: Payout is weekly via Paypal. Jobs pays based on each audio minute ranging from .40 cents to $1.
  • Tigerfish: Requires you to take three, five-minute tests before being hired. Has opportunities for beginners and typically pay between 3 and 4 cent every line that’s transcribed.
  • Daily Transcription: Fast pace, work is to be submitted same day. Site is always looking for transcribers.
  • Transcribe Me: Great for beginners, don’t require much to get started. They pay $20 per audio hour transcribed.
  • Focus Forward: US citizens only. Requires some experience and the pay is $10 per 15 minutes transcribed.
  • Scribie: Offers a lot of flexibility to freelancers.
  • REV: Has availability for beginners. Required to pass a skills test that can be difficult.
  • BAM: Required to pass a skills test. Offers a range of transcription services from legal, corporate, finance and general transcription services.
  • Birch Creek Communications: Has openings for corporate transcriptions.
  • Crowd Surf: Payouts for completed tasks are fast. Site creates captions for the deaf and those with a second language.

You can start a career in freelance writing with limited experience and no degree. There are opportunities on sites like Freelancer and Upwork. Many freelance writing beginners can build lucrative careers over time.

Out of all of the jobs listed, online tutoring requires the most interaction. You won’t be calling students up on the phone but you will need a webcam to interact with them and help them learn the English language.

These is great for those with teach experience under their belt. Average pay can be $20 an hour.

  • QKids: Similar to VIPKid. The company pay ranges from $16-20 an hour.
  • Cambly: Get paid $.17 per talk minute. Pay is weekly. Opportunities available for beginners.
  • NiceTalk: Free mobile app where you can teach English to students. No experience needed.
  • BrainFuse: Company pays $20 an hour.
  • MagicEars: Pay can range between $18-26 per hour.

10. Chat Rep

Many companies and small businesses are starting to offer live chat support. Its easy and fast for customers to get answer to questions and problems their having.

Chat Support Rep can work from home but may not necessarily have a flexible schedule. This is largely dependent on the company.

Here are companies that regularly hire for live chat support:

  • Apple: The main chat opportunity is call at -home advisor position.
  • Ginger.io: A work-from-home chat support that offers assistance to those suffering with mental health problems. A degree in the mental health field is required.
  • Captial Typing: Hires typically for transcriptionists and writing but periodically hire for chat support jobs.

11. Become a Social Media Moderator

With the rise of social media, the demand for social media managers is increasing. Companies and small businesses are looking for people to moderator their social media accounts.

Moderation can include responding to comments, deleting inappropriate comments, etc.

12. Data Entry

Data entry offers an opportunity to work-from-home and avoid making and taking calls. It isn’t necessarily flexible but is dependent on which company you’re working with.

You won’t get rich from data entry but it is fairly easy to do and doesn’t require any experience. Opportunities in this area include transferring data from one source to another. So if you’re going at typing and accuracy, then this can be a great job for you.

Here are some opportunities that can get you started making money in data entry:

  • Lionbridge: A very legitimate company that has clients such as Google and Microsoft. You can find quality data entry work that has flexibility. There is no long term commitment, simply complete tasks that you signed up for.
  • Xerox: If you want to work for a well-known, prestigious company, then Xerox is the place. The company hires constantly for work-from-home data entry jobs. Jobs can be full-time and part-time.
  • Dion Data: US citizens only and require full-time availability. Must be able to type up to 60 words per minute.
  • Working Solutions: Entry test required, part-time and full-time opportunities available.
  • Amazon Mechanical Turk: Offers short tasks for extra income. Not available for full-time work.
  • Axion Data Entry Services: Previous experience needed and must have the ability to type 50 words per minute.
  • Cass Information Systems: Offers work from home data entry with on-site training. Opportunities listed as “Data Verificiation Clerk” on the their website.
